When should visit to Cu Vai?

Cu Vai village has its own beauty in all four seasons. Spring with peach blossom forests, white plum blossoms and a bit of chill left over from winter In the summer, Cu Vai is immersed in the gentle sunlight, making the scenery even more brilliant and sparkling. Fall, especially September and October, is a great time to admire the shiny golden rice terraces. In winter, if you’re lucky, you can hunt snow, otherwise hunting clouds is enough to overwhelm you. But almost every time I come to Cu Vai, I see clouds drifting lazily. Because in Thai, Cu Vai means “a strip of clouds across the sky”.

In 2013, Cu Vai village had only about 40 households, of which more than 80% were H’Mong ethnic people. With the rugged terrain and no electricity in the village, people’s lives are quite difficult. Most people only know how to farm upland rice, so productivity is still poor.

Currently, Cu Vai village has nearly 50 households with nearly 300 people.

In 2017, the charity project that Miss Do My Linh (Miss World Vietnam 2017) chose to carry out before leaving to compete in Miss World was “Carrying electricity to the village” in Cu Vai village, and since then The lives of people in the village are better. At the same time, thanks to the help of agricultural extension officers from the district, people also learned to grow corn and cultivate wet rice.

The “Carrying electricity to the village” project installs solar power for households in Cu Vai village, helping highland people see electric light for the first time.

Currently, that number has increased to nearly 50 households with about 278 people. Mong ethnic people in Cu Vai village still maintain traditional customs and habits. Everyone is very friendly and approachable, bringing a warm feeling to every visitor when visiting the village.

People in Cu Vai live here mainly for self-sufficiency, closely connecting their daily lives with nature and the mountains and forests. The roads are remote and difficult, and the economy is difficult, so very few people visit this place, so Cu Vai still retains its inherent wild features. Still a “fairy tale village” hidden in the clouds.

Like a girl falling asleep in the mountains and forests of the Northwest, Cu Vai village is small, beautiful and peaceful, nestled in the cloudy sky and covered with mountains as beautiful as a paradise. In the afternoon, you will see children playing, their faces bright, their eyes carefree and not afraid of strangers visiting.

The village is small, standing from the beginning of the village you can already see the end of the village, looking down from above the main road in the village is like a runway. On both sides are straight houses of households, lying on top of the mountain, separate. Completely away from the “hustling world”, you can walk, admire the scenery and have fun with children or the elderly.

In Cu Vai village, there are currently homestay households, but the conditions in the remote village still lack amenities. However, you will have a real experience when staying here with the locals, so visit early in the morning to socialize. Travel, learn about the lives of the Mong ethnic people and go down the mountain early because the mountain roads are quite dangerous. If you want to stay, you can only ask to stay at a local house or camp overnight. The weather in the high mountains is changeable, so everyone should bring a jacket, raincoat, lighter, flashlight, drinking water, and some fast food!

Conquering the terrain of Cu Vai village is also conquering yourself

I came here in the afternoon, after climbing the mountain pass for more than 3 hours to overcome dangerous terrain, I arrived at the village right when the sun was going down the mountain, when the villagers returned from working in the fields, the afternoon clouds were coming down, catching my breath. Seeing the children happily welcoming their parents home from working in the fields, somewhere there was the smell of smoke, the smell of a cozy stove for the dinner being lit, everything was so wonderful that even though the road back from the mountain was difficult, it was still worth it.
